Zola Blood return with the first single from their self-produced debut album, ‘Infinite Games.’ slated for release later this year.
‘Heartbeat’ was written and recorded in the band’s Hackney studio and takes cues from the likes of techno heroes Matthew Dear and Trentemoller, blending layers of sumptuous percussion, analogue synths and atmospheric guitars.
Musically it reflects the band’s love of the dance music that pervades the area where they work into the night. Hang drums and acoustic guitars combine in complex rhythms, giving way to a euphoric climax, while the lyrics tell the story of a relationship that should never have been.
Heartbeat was produced by Zola Blood and mixed by David Oversby-Powell (Fyfe, Shura).

Hackney four-piece Zola Blood have shared the second single from their forthcoming double A-side.
Pieces of The Day continues to explore the dense electronic sounds that Zola Blood displayed on previous single, ‘Play Out’. Recorded between London and Leeds with veteran producer Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Ghostpoet, Darkstar), the song tells a story of an evening spent on London’s number 8 night bus, all rumbling synths and hazy vocals that give way to a lush chorus pleading us to go home.
Following the release of their debut EP in 2014, Zola Blood have gone on to generate nearly 1.5m streams, with sold out shows in London and a UK tour with Boxed In. This summer saw festival performances at DimSwn and the Great Escape, with the band described as “the highlight of the weekend” (LOBF) at the Secret Garden Party in late July. The band are currently recording their debut album for release early next year. You can pre-order it now at Pledge Music.

Zola Blood, the latest act to emerge from the much-loved and revered Pond Life Songs, announced their arrival this July with the release of the hugely ambitious tracks Grace and Meridian. Developed over a year in a windowless Hackney Wick studio, Zola Blood’s sound is minimal and textured, with intricate arrangements and meticulous attention to detail. The Meridian EP serves up waves of ambient electronica and bubbling synths, interspersed with reverberating guitars and delicate vocals that draw you into a nocturnal soundscape of soulful rumination.
On the Meridian EP, Zola Blood display both a fervent appreciation of the subtleties of electronic music and a loyal bond to melody and songwriting. The band’s distinctive sound is a testament to Pond Life’s passion for bold and inventive new music.
