Last month, Tourist revealed his new music video for “U” (see here) and announced his February 2017 Australian headline shows. The video for “U” a co-direct project by frequent collaborator Jacob Robinson and multi-talent Dillon Moore.
A hypnotising visual piece, the video was directed by Jacob Robinson, the creative director who designed the U album cover and has worked with Tourist on a multitude of releases.
The visual translation follows on from the James Lewis-directed and Jacob Robinson art directed video for “Too Late,” which came off the back of the BBC Radio 1 playlisted track and Hype Machine #1 offerings, “Run” and “To Have You Back.”
Picking up a GRAMMY last year for his co-writer role on Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”, Tourist wrote debut album U over the course of several years. Taking the listener through the beginnings of a relationship to the parting of ways, the 10-track offering takes a more stripped back approach, following previous singles and EPs including 2015’s “Holding On” (ft. Josef Salvat & Niia) which clocked over 1.6 million SoundCloud streams.
Having toured his exquisite album throughout Europe and the U.S, including Pitchfork, Panorama and Bestival, fans will be treated to seeing this classically trained instrumentalist and producer perform his album live.

Here’s the video for London disco pop duo EKKAH’s new single, Small Talk, produced by Tourist. This is their first release since being signed to Sony/RCA and the Last Chance To Dance EP, an emotive and neon-lit blend of arching melodies, colorful synths, reverberant handclaps and disco groove.
EKKKAH are the London duo of Rebecca Wilson and Rebekah Pennington. Last year they released the Last Chance To Dance EP which showcased their formidable songwriting and melodic classic disco meets synth pop sound to much support, supported Kylie Minogue and Chic in Hyde Park and played a headline UK tour in October and November. They’re currently writing and recording in LA with further singles to follow this year.
Following electrifying live appearances at Coachella Festival, Disclosure’s Wild Life festival and Park Life earlier this year and revealing a new album track “Waves” over the weekend (stream/download it below), Tourist (William Phillips) reveals the video for his current single (out 7/24) “Holding On” feat. Josef Salvat and Niia.
Directed and choreographed by Holly Blakey, the video follows a couple as they move between intimacy and intensity, the dynamics explained further by Holly below:
“When I heard “Holding On” I was drawn to the way Tourist was presenting a love song (if we talk of it in it’s basic form) but was addressing something more subtle in the subject. There is a boy and a girl and they sing of either each other or someone else, something we never really find out and I liked that idea.
I wondered about these relationships we create throughout life and how our actions can be so disproportionate to what we’re trying to express or articulate, we can act in ways completely opposite to our intention. And then ultimately, if we had to pull it all down to a few basic actions what would they look like?” – Holly Blakey

Here’s a couple of remixes of Tourist’s current single ‘Holding On‘ featuring Niia and Josef Salvat. One comes from longstanding house legend Todd Edwards, turning in a jacked-up beat version positioning it undeniably in classic house territory.
The next comes from newcomer Braxton who overloads the piano lead and maintains the soulful exchange between Niia and Josef to make for a touching upbeat remix. The single is released May 24th.
Tourist has just announced his new single ‘Holding On’ featuring Josef Salvat and Niia trading vocal duties. Niia and Josef’s vocals traverse back and forth with a forlorn hope while Tourist provides the shining on-point production he’s been delivering across the last year as he works towards announcing his debut album.
Due on Polydor on May 24th. Available to pre-order on iTunes: po.st/xytD3Z.
London’s producer William Phillips aka Tourist unveiled this hypnotic animated video for his latest single “Illuminate”, featuring vocals from Olly Alexander of Years & Years. Directed by Nicolas Ménard.
In 1992, a man receives love letters in Korean. Since Google Translate doesn’t exist yet, he’s left confused. What could this mean? Graphic aesthetic influenced by video games X (Gameboy) and Super World Runner (NES).
Here’s the new single from Tourist featuring Years & Years entitled ‘Illuminate’. He revealed new track “Wait” a couple of weeks back, a deeper and more abrasive approach akin to Jon Hopkins. With the new single, Tourist exercises his more conventional pop role, working with Years & Years to deliver the top-line as he did with Lianne La Havas on his Patterns EP earlier in the year.
As with the track’s title, the arpeggiated synths certainly convey a neon glow and work as a distinct contrast to ‘Wait’, exemplifying the diverse range of Tourist’s approach to his production.
Here’s the video for Tourist‘s new track “Wait“, taken from his forthcoming debut album. The video acts as a pre-cursor to his visual live show that he launches next week when he plays Pitchfork’s afterparty in Paris next week and the Annie Mac Presents tour in November.
He worked with director Jacob Robinson to exemplify what his live setup but also in conjunction with the morphing visuals in the background that will develop through his shows. The track has a shifting depth and will no doubt appeal to fans of Jon Hopkins, finding Tourist at his more experimental.
