After Ben Moorhouse and Leo a.k.a Ten Fé released Twist Your Arm, their bluesy-electro-stomper produced by Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, M83, The Rapture), which was NME’s New Music of the Day, Line Of Best Fit’s Song of the Day and Hype Machine No. 1, Ten Fé unveil an exciting new rework by Norwegian DJs and producers Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas.

Listen to ‘Twist Your Arm (Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas Remix)’ HERE.

The original ‘Twist Your Arm’ features slide guitars, chain-gang backing vocals, gospel piano and a Primal Scream / Screamadelica infusion by Pearson. Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, two of Norway’s biggest names on the electronic music scene have delivered a disco wig-out version.

The band’s 5-track Remix EP, ‘Hit The Light – The Remixes’, is out now as a digital download and on limited edition Vinyl. The EP has an impressive line-up featuring remixes by electronic music legend UNKLE, Ewan Pearson, Tom Furse of The Horrors and German Roman Flügel. The Remix EP is the culmination of a collaboration between the band and Electronic Beats, and the deft analogue-meets-digital vibe that their relationship is about, presenting exciting and exclusive remixes of Ten Fé’s album tracks on limited edition vinyl.

TEN FÉ – Another Way

tenfe

Today Ten Fé unveil one last track ‘Another Way’, from their debut album ‘Hit The Light’.

Says Ben about ‘Another Way’ “We wrote this song in the height of summer in the Black Country and recorded in the depths of winter in Berlin. Like ‘Elodie’ it was influenced a lot by the films we were watching at the time – bleak, expansive portrayals of America. We kept returning to the image of a character stood out in the deserted street of a small town, singing up to the silhouette of a girl in the window.”

The sonic of the Ewan Pearson-produced track is bright and heartening whilst the feel of the song is more desperately emotive. Listen HERE:

Ten Fé reveal ‘Twist Your Arm’, the Ewan Pearson-produced lead single from their debut album ‘Hit The Light’.

“We came to Ewan with what is basically an old, bluesy-type tune” says Leo Duncan about ‘Twist Your Arm’, “slide guitars, chain-gang backing vocals, gospel piano – and Ewan took it in a Weatherall / Primal Scream / Screamadelica direction, which was fine by us cos that was why we wanted to work with him! And he preserved enough of the original vibe for it to still feel kind of rootsy.”

The track is the perfect example of the analogue-meets-digital vibe that Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan, aka Ten Fé had going on during their album sessions with Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, M83, The Rapture) in Berlin last year. With two lead singers and songwriters, each with their own distinct voice and songwriting style – and Ewan’s trademark pulsating electronic grooves underscoring this and the rest of the forthcoming LP – it’s characteristic of the band’s songs that they bend fluidly between one style and another.

It is perhaps of little surprise that Ten Fe’s debut album ‘Hit The Light’, due out 3 February 2017, is marked by its diversity. Each track on ‘Hit The Light’ stands independently, whilst the overall experience is balanced by the accomplished interplay between style and song. Their mix of Americana with darker, driving electronics, and vocal harmonies make the London band genuinely stand out.

The 11 track LP follows the release of their acclaimed singles, ‘Make Me Better’, ‘In The Air’, ‘Elodie’ and ‘Turn’, last year, all hitting no. 2 Hype Machine and amassing over 6 million Spotify streams as well as a cover of Underworld’s ‘Born Slippy .NUXX’ in December which was also a Hype Machine no. 2 most popular.

Recorded in the studio built into the Berlin HQ of Kompakt Records in Berlin with Ewan Pearson, ‘Hit The Light’ is a highly accomplished album with a captivating concoction of styles. The record seamlessly fuses intricate contemporary electronics and the band’s signature energetic mix of Americana, Manchester baggy and soulful vocals.

Named ‘Hit The Light’ after the big theme of the album: coming from dark into light; an act of renewal.  The album is the result of 4 long years’ of work, which has led them from busking on the London Underground, through a bedroom in Birmingham, to eventually recording in Berlin. The depth of their relationship, creative and personal, has seen them through. It’s no coincidence the name of this band means “Have faith”.

‘Hit The Light’ will be available through SOME KINDA LOVE / [PIAS] on CD (SKL004CD), Digital (SKL004DA1) and the LP version is a double vinyl LP (SKL004LP). Pre-order the album through Ten Fé’s store HERE. Pre-order on iTunes HERE and get ‘Elodie’ and ‘Overflow’ as instant downloads.

The fin. – Through The Deep Remix EP

the fin.jpg

Japanese masters of shimmering ethereal pop, The fin. announce exclusive remix EP, featuring versions by The Field, Ten Fé and All We Are.

Three adventurous reworkings of tracks from The fin.’s ocean-inspired dream-pop nugget ‘Through The Deep’ will be released in the UK on 25 November. The remix EP will also serve as a key component of the launch of Spotify in Japan.

About the remixes:

When All We Are toured with The fin. in Japan earlier this year, the two bands became firm friends, and the love that the Liverpool trio have put into their exceptional rework of ‘Anchorless Ship’ is clear. Rich, Guro and Luis convert the sparse funk of the original into a haunting cut of anthemic techno, upping the tempo, bottoming out the bass end and decorating the track with dissonant acid stabs. True to All We Are’s psych-disco leanings, their ‘Anchorless Ship’ evolves into a second act with a ferocious tribal edge, an invitation to dance that can’t be refused.

London’s blissful electro-indie pairing Ten Fé artfully craft their mix around the melodic synth washes of The fin.’s 60-second ‘Heat’, expanding the groove via a punchy bassline set to a motorik pulse, phasing the original sine-wave oscillations and warping frontman Yuto’s vocal into an alien drawl. This singular piece of extra-terrestrial kraut-funk builds to a euphoric climax, as horn stabs and sustained harmonics add colour to an irresistible clubland vibe.

Finally, Stockholm-born, Berlin-based ambient techno producer Axel Willner, aka The Field, transcends the rapturous dream-pop of the EP’s title track with an extraordinary 12-minute canvas of electro-minimalism. A hypnotic raga for our time, ‘Through The Deep’ here becomes an unusual jewel of rich, breathy experimentalism, almost imperceptibly peaking and troughing along its mesmerising sonic path.

About The fin.
Hailing from the vibrant Japanese port city of Kobe, The fin. elected to temporarily relocate to England’s equally bustling capital in autumn 2016 to explore the impact that life in London might bring to bear on their new material. Having signed to Lost In The Manor Records the previous year, the band’s growing renown on these shores has led to a surge of media interest and prime headline slots such as this year’s Great Escape Festival. A reputed and singular attraction in their homeland due to their stylish Europhile blend of synth-pop, chillwave and dream-pop, complete with English lyrics addressing universal themes of everyday uncertainties, The fin. have, since forming in 2012, performed before thousands of rapturous fans at major Japanese festivals including Fuji Rock, Rising Sun and Viva La Rock. Not content with such acclaim in one country alone, Yuto Uchino (vocals and synths), Ryosuke Odagaki (guitar), Takayasu Taguchi (bass) and Kaoru Nakazawa (drums) set their sights worldwide and in 2015 embarked on a major tour of the US, which included a performance at SXSW, before signing to Lost In The Manor and releasing their debut UK EP, ‘Night Time’. This spring’s deliciously refined follow-up, ‘Through The Deep’ only served to demonstrate the depth, versatility and scope of this terrific band, whose songs’ sonorous components, as evidenced in this new collection, are a remixer’s delight.

Ten Fé – Hit The Light LP

‘Hit The Light’ is the debut album release by Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan, aka Ten Fé. The 11 track LP from the London-based duo is due for release on 3 February 2017. This follows the release of their acclaimed singles, ‘Make Me Better’, ‘In The Air’, ‘Elodie’ and ‘Turn’, earlier this year, all hitting no. 2 Hype Machine and amassing over 5 millions Spotify streams.

Recorded in the studio built into the Berlin HQ of Kompakt Records in Berlin with Ewan Pearson (Jagwar Ma, M83, The Rapture), ‘Hit The Light’ is a highly accomplished album with a captivating concoction of styles. The record seamlessly fuses intricate contemporary electronics and the band’s signature energetic mix of Americana, Manchester baggy and soulful vocals.

The depth of their relationship, creative and personal, has seen them through. It’s no coincidence the name of this band means “Have faith”.

The LP takes you on a journey with the band, a monumental road-trip with Ben and Leo sharing the driving as they each take lead on their own compositions.

The first track to be shared from the album – ‘Overflow’ – is an urgent and vibrant electronic-indie track; an emotional, driving, ode to love lost. Ben Moorhouse and Leo Duncan’s interwoven vocal, guitar and synth lines create a lush bed of harmony through the track. This time Ben takes lead vocal, delivering in a rich baritone how he “waited a while for love to spark, next I know I’m in the dark”, before ending the song on a defiantly optimistic note, that ”love is there so let it overflow again”. Video: Ten Fé – Turn

ten fe.png

Ten Fé’s ‘Turn’ was a smash online when it dropped last month, hitting no 3 Hype Machine. Today they share the video filmed around their E17 rehearsal space.

Watch here:

In a year since setting out, Ben Moorhouse, Leo Duncan and band have gained real momentum and marked themselves out as one of the UK’s most promising prospects. Previous singles ‘In The Air’ and ‘Elodie’ both reached No. 2 in Hype Machine’s most popular chart and accumulated 4 million Spotify streams, whilst debut single ‘Make Me Better’ was remixed by electronic music legend UNKLE. The band’s hybrid sound of Americana, driving electronics and blissed-out vocal harmonies is finding supporters and fans all over.

With latest single Turn, the London-based band have stripped back and shown us their soulful, woozy side. It’s a track that’s more restrained than earlier singles, with an allure owing to its dusty aesthetic and captivatingly detached vocal. Leo is this time back on lead for a beautifully rendered road-trip record.

Ewan Pearson, who has produced the band’s debut LP, and remixed the likes of Gwenno, Jagwar Ma and Royksopp before delivered an incredible remix of Turn. It was a chugging house rework in his signature style, which made an ecstatic focus of the track’s howling chant.

Turn is the latest glimpse from their forthcoming debut album, produced by Ewan Pearson (M83, Jagwar Ma, The Rapture) over a year’s exile in Berlin, and is set for release at the start of next year on SOME KINDA LOVE / [PIAS].

Ten Fé play Rough Trade East in London on October 26th as part of Rough Trade’s 40th Birthday and are supporting The Veils at Koko Camden on October 25th. They played the Reeperbahn festival including a packed-out “Best Of” showcase on the Spielbundenplatz.

TEN FÉ – Make Me Better (UNKLE Reconstruction)

tenfe

Here’s a great new remix of TEN FÉ’s “Make Me Better” from UNKLE! The remix beautifully enhances the track’s introspective overtones by placing Leo’s airy vocals in a cavernous electronic soundscape, driven by its brooding synths and a pulsing backbeat.

“Make Me Better” (UNKLE Reconstruction) is out now and is following the stunning triumvirate of singles “Elodie,” “In The Air” and “Make Me Better” which give a taste of TEN FÉ’s debut album.
