Guy Gerber delivers eclectic new ‘What To Do’ EP. The 3-track production set for release on 2nd March via RUMORS.
Ahead of its release on the 27th January, Guy Gerber has revealed the full stream of ‘Here Comes The Rain’. The A side from the forthcoming two track EP of the same name, it will be out on Guy’s own label RUMORS at the end of this week.
A collaboration with Deniz Kurtel, the EP combines the best of the pair’s shared ear for darkly atmospheric late night melodies. Title track ‘Here Comes The Rain’ is a highly-anticipated release, after having appeared in a number of mixes from Guy. Muted piano chords build up to a layers of echoing synths and subtle vocal samples for an evocative lead track.
Meanwhile, B-side ‘An Army Of Stalkers’, as its name suggests, is a slightly faster-paced affair with twinkling arpeggios and a subtle rolling bassline.
Guy Gerber and Deniz Kurtel have previously worked together, with Guy remixing her 2011 release ‘The L Word’. They’ve also performed alongside each other at a number of events, including Guy’s first Ibiza residency the Wisdom of the Glove.
The EP is Guy’s fifth release on the RUMORS label, which he launched back in 2014. It follows an incredible year for the DJ and producer; 2016 saw the RUMORS event series go from strength to strength, with the Ibiza residency gaining a glowing reputation and expanding internationally, taking in parties across Europe and the US. Following a critically acclaimed first solo EP on the label, ‘Secret Encounters’, Guy went on to sell out London’s iconic Koko Camden with the promise of an all night set. The release of ‘Here Comes The Rain’ sets the tone for further successes in 2017.
The latest release from Guy Gerber’s respected RUMORS label comes in the form of this 4-track EP from elusive producer Clarian. A regular Guy Gerber collaborator and remixer, Clarian has also recently released on the likes of Anjunadeep, Turbo, Life and Death, Supplement Facts and My Favourite Robot. Despite his mysterious persona, Clarian is regularly booked to play slots at some of the world’s best clubs; Fabric, Watergate, and Output to name just a few.
This new EP is an exemplary slice of the kind of deep, enigmatic techno that RUMORS has become well known for, all whilst showcasing Clarian’s own unique, imagery-filled style. Title track ‘Fear and Self-Loathing’ is a dark, dreamy soundscape of exotic Arabian flutes, subtle acid stabs and echoing synths that plays out like a hallucinatory trip through the desert. Hunter Game, who has provided the first remix on the A-side, takes things down a grittier road of rolling techno, led by a stomping bassline and distorted stabs.
Meanwhile, the second remix on the B-side comes courtesy of Christian Burkhardt, who has switched up the pace for his ‘Vegas’ take on the record; sliding, tense synths are offset by driving drums and flickers of whispering vocals, lending the track a cinematic, car-chase-esque feel.
‘Absence’ is the last track included on the EP from Clarian. Cascading electronic arpeggios are underpinned by a strong beat, building up to an echoing excerpt from a classic French film – a couple reflecting on love ends with the female confessing that she wants to leave, giving the track a sombre edge.
A well-produced four tracks showcasing varying shades of the techno spectrum, the ‘Fear and Self Loathing’ EP is set to further cement both Clarian’s status as a unique producer, as well as RUMORS’ well-deserved reputation as a reliable source of high-quality music.
Having made his label debut for ‘Blue Shadow’, as well as delivering its inaugural podcast, ‘Since I Met You’, fellow Israeli DJ and producer Chaim returns to Guy Gerber’s RUMORS imprint to present his follow-up EP, ‘Cant Wait To C U’.
Scheduled for release on June 1st, ‘Cant Wait To C U’ caps an impressive year for Guy’s hybrid label-party concept. Launched in the spring of 2014, RUMORS has quickly become renowned for its discerning approach to the electronic music scene that focuses on providing quality house music built around creativity and exploration – which recently saw Seth Troxler welcomed to the label for ‘Evangelion’.
Maintaining RUMORS’ taste for deep and almost spiritual techno, Chaim’s latest EP not only encompasses the label’s intriguing release policy but also demonstrates Chaim and Guy’s long-standing production partnership. Having produced 8 remixes together, ‘Can’t Wait To C U’ follows a similar blueprint to the pairs previous outputs and sees its title track fuse together down-tempo beats with a soulful vocal hook. The aptly named B-side, ‘Cosmology’, proceeds with an atmospheric and near-mesmeric approach thats followed by closing track ‘Escape Velocity’ – rounding off as a sonic and inspired set of tracks that lays the foundations for another exciting year for the RUMORS collective.
