Almost one year on from his last release on the label, Athens based Alex Dimou releases a stellar EP for Rebellion showcasing his wide musical range over three tracks.
The ultra depths of piano driven lead track Tot, the wobbly, twisted rhythms of Define and the tech-house slam poetry of Constellation all showcase the many sides of Alex Dimou. His debut release for the label, This Time, featured Namibian singer Black Soda, which inspired a new collaboration. Constellation was the outcome, which features South African slam poet Lazarusman, well known for his work with Stimming, DJ.T and Djuma Soundsystem.
“I’ve been working on this EP for the past year. ‘Tot’ is one of my favourite tracks, where I’ve tried to blend my routes with newest influences. ‘Constellation’ came together almost a year ago, it’s a collaboration with Lazarusman, an artist I’ve always admired. ‘Define’ was made in Paris. During my live performance in a club, I realised that I needed a track with a vocoder vocal so I started working on it as soon as I went back to the hotel.” – Alex Dimou
Anyone who has heard Alex Dimou’s impressive live-set will recognise these tracks that will now finally be released on on Rebellion. Other releases can be found on the likes of Get Physical, Audiomatique Recordings and Kindisch.
Be Svendsen gets set to release the enchanting Twilight in Tankwa on Rebellion following his successful remix of NU’s Man O To on sister label Crosstown Rebels. Remix treatment comes courtesy of Berlin native Nico Stojan.
Twilight in Tankwa is a mystical and musical journey that Be Svendsen explains “is the result of decades long intimate relationship with outdoor rhythmic dance experience. The foundation of the track is rooted in a synth hook from the early 50’s. The vocal, inspired by a barbershop quartet, work to give it the character of a true desert hymn.”
The remix comes from Nico Stojan who twists a fresh melody into the original over driving undertones. Having honed his musical style as resident at the infamous Bar25 in Berlin, he has also released on labels like Highgrade, Connaisseur and Upon You records.
Equally alluring, second original track Scarecrow was brought about by AYAWAKE who wrote and recorded the vocals. He generously passed on to Be who honored it as the crown work of his cowboy-tech-tribute to the Ennio Morricone soundtracks of the late 60’s.
Be Svendsen aka Lasse Bruhn Svendsen broke through into the international scene in 2014 with a series of productions and enchanting live performances at some of the most avant garde places to play on the earth, such as BOOM festival, Fusion, Burning Man, Symbiosis, Rainbow Serpent and AfrikaBurn.

Alex Dimou teams up with Black Soda, a multi-platform artist based in Cape Town to produce the mesmerising ‘This Time’, set with two dOP remixes for Crosstown Rebels’s Rebellion (Release Date: 11/03/2016).
South Africa’s Black Soda works in photography, writes, sings, produces and performs her music live, both as a solo artist and in various groups. “I met Black Soda almost a year ago through our mutual friend, Echonomist,’ explains Dimou, ‘It was probably the easiest collaboration I have ever done as she is a pure talent.” Her voice elevates ‘This Time’ from club weapon to raw ammunition for the highest peaks of the nights.
Notorious French trio dOP bring a delicate sensuality to their ‘Early remix’, while the ‘late dub’ sparks with an other-worldly, futuristic aura. Their infamous live show catapulted them to the mainstream and saw them return to the year end charts in the likes of Resident Advisor and Groove, but dOP first cemented their reputation as producers taking their own distinct vision to dance music.

Squire debuts on Crosstown Rebels off-shoot Rebellion with ‘City Cemetery / Midnight Gardens’ featuring Forrest.
“Without a doubt, Damian Lazarus has become my mentor and greatly motivates me to work. This was an unexpected release and both tracks came from one visit to the studio. I feel very proud of this Forrest collaboration and we are already planning a new collab together. The best is yet to come.” Squire on City Cemetery / Midnight Gardens
First up ‘City Cemetery’ takes a slow pace and plays with subtle flavours resulting in a stripped back chic record, complete with a dub version on the flip.
