Nalepa + William Arcane – Feel

feel

Producers Nalepa (US) and William Arcane (UK) met in London when Arcane opened for Nalepa’s band The Acid (Infectious/Mute). Immediately taken by Arcane’s striking vocals and his outstanding electronic productions, Nalepa reached out to collaborate when he returned to town. The two hit the studio on a stretch of downtime between The Acid’s summer festival appearances, discovering an immediate and fluid musical chemistry together. Feel, their first single, combines lush atmospheres and skittering percussion on top of driving rhythms. Analog synth stabs, deep drones and heavy bass juxtapose with Arcane’s gentle vocals to carry the listener through emotional undertaking.

The single is the latest release on TeamSupreme, the label run by the Los Angeles producer collective that’s made a name for itself by putting out over two years of weekly beat tapes and throwing monthly sold out shows. Individual team members have been turning heads internationally, with rising stars Djemba Djemba, Mr Carmack, Penthouse Penthouse, Promnite and DJ Hoodboi dropping celebrated releases on labels such as Mad Decent, Terroryhthm and Fool’s Gold. This single kicks off a new era for TeamSupreme, with an increased focus on the label and the upcoming releases.

William Arcane

William Arcane is set to drop his Reckless EP on Pictures Music, his third release with the trendsetting UK label that first brought Lapalux and Koreless to the world’s attention. The elusive electronic lullaby producer makes raw and wistful music combining analog synths, crisp production, and his haunting, melancholic vocals. Earlier this year, his Fade/Reflected EP was released to critical acclaim and support from the likes of Jamie XX, John Talabot and Bonobo. Off the back of that EP, William Arcane supported Glass Animals on their UK tour, as well as The Acid at their sold out London show and Son Lux in Paris.

Nalepa

One third of The Acid and founding member of TeamSupreme, Californian polymath Steve Nalepa has been a strong influence in the west coast music scene, helping craft the minds of future beatmakers as professor of music technology at a prestigious university’s conservatory of music. He also devised courses for bicoastal and online music production school Dubspot, as well as designed Ableton Live rigs for some of the biggest touring acts in the world. Beyond his strong lines in music, Nalepa is also a publisher of award-winning art books which focused on challenging traditional ideas about culture through the esteemed, self-launched Dilettante Press. He embarks on a month long tour of Europe in September with The Acid.

The track sees William’s style evolve further since last summer’s ‘Permanence’ EP. He threw out all his computer synth plug-ins and started using re-sampled acoustic sounds and using only analogue synthesisers. The results weave in influences from Kid A-era Radiohead, to composers like Ryuichi Sakamoto and Nils Frahm into a meditative track. Having come off a UK wide tour this June with Glass Animals, Will continues to carve out his tender compositions.

Dauwd – Heat Division Remixes EP [2013]

Today, UK producer Dauwd has released the "Heat Division Remixes EP" with edits from DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy and Ostgut’s Nick Höppner. It’s a white label, 300 vinyl copies only. Here are a couple of cuts from it, including a new edit by Dauwd. Goldsworthy’s experience producing the likes of Unkle and The Rapture is put to work on his remix of ‘Heat Divsion’ adding a mercurial vocal hook and a unique ending to the track, while Höppner’s work roots ‘And’ firmly in the ubiquitous sound of Berlin. Dauwd rounds off the line-up with a different take on ‘Silverse’ offering a version aimed squarely at the dance floor. It’s a split release from Pictures Music and Ghostly International.
