‘Nous Horizon’, Yuksek’s third album, came out last February to critical acclaim. It showed a new approach in his vision for electronic and pop writing. His new melodies are brighter than before; his beats and production more subtle but still convey a touch of hedonism in it’s most club-friendly sounds.

Yuksek has lined up an eclectic and surprising line-up for this reworked versions.
The record features remixes from long time friends Juveniles and Getaroom, the disco legend Dimitri From Paris, newcomers on the scene such as Destino and Ccolo ( Multi Culti ), french duet Synapson and techno rising star The Mekanism ( signed on Seth Troxler imprint ) and the coolest guy from brooklyn aka Jacques Renault.

Yuksek himself offers some alternative versions of the songs, live or edit versions making this album a real second chapter, not only a random remix package.

Yuksek x Thomas Pesquet

yuksek

Celebrated French producer and songwriter, Yuksek has just revealed an exciting video for his latest single video ‘Live Alone’ which features singer Roman Rappak (Breton) and is taken from his forthcoming album ‘Nous Horizon’, being released on 24th February 2017 via his own label Partyfine.

The music video for ‘Live Alone’ is an incredible collaboration between Yuksek and ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet on the International Space Station.

The duo who are friends, came up for the concept of this film which was to show both ships; the ship of creation in Yuksek’s studio composing music inspired by Thomas flight in space and the spaceship where Thomas is performing science for the benefit of humanity. Illustrating their daily routines everyday working life they are brought together by music that crosses borders and travels easily from Earth to space. The underlying concept for the video is that music connects people regardless of where they are. Even in Space!

Thomas Pequet is spending six months on the International Space Station as part of his Proxima mission. During Proxima, Thomas will perform around 50 scientific experiments for ESA and France’s space agency CNES as well as take part in many research activities for the other Station partners. The mission is part of ESA’s vision to use Earth-orbiting spacecraft as a place to live and work for the benefit of European society while using the experience to prepare for future voyages of exploration further into the Solar System.

Astronaut Thomas Pesquet said of the video, ‘Music makes the world go round, and listening to music as we circle Earth helps me feel connected to home and keeps me motivated. The idea for this video came from talking with Yuksek in Paris before my launch and I am glad we both found the time to make it happen. I don’t think there have been any other music videos made in space and this one is great, thanks to his talent!’

Yuksek adds, ‘I’ve always been in awe of astronauts and when I first met Thomas I had thousands of questions I wanted to ask him! Now we are firm friends and it felt a bit unreal to speak with someone about to leave the planet when he left for this mission. My album was not totally finished when Thomas took off but I loved the thought that that one the first people listening to my record would be doing it from space! We both thought “Live Alone” would be the perfect title to do a video mixing space frames and studio shots and a result we’ve got something totally unique; a music video shot from space with the vision of a cosmonaut listening to my music. I still can’t quite believe it.’

Yuksek set up his label Partyfine in 2013 which is now home to likes of Clarens, Weekend Affair, Get A Room! ‘Nous Horizon’ is his first studio album release for four years but during this time he has collaborated with Chassol, Keren Ann, Yaya Herman Dune, JD Samson, Boston Bun, The Magician (Peter & the Magician) and Alex Metric (The Alexanders), and continued to make remixes for the likes of Lana Del Rey, Phoenix, M83, Gorillaz, & Empire of the Sun.

Yuksek has also devoted a lot of time to writing for cinema, television and the stage. He composed the philharmonic orchestral music for the original soundtrack of the Valérie Donzelli movie Marguerite et Julien, (2015 Cannes Festival), and music for a Bergman play performed by Sophie Marceau on the Arte TV channel. He also wrote the instrumental arrangements for director Ludovic Lagarde’s adaptation of L’Avare (The Miser) and has composed music for documentaries and fashion shows such as Carvan and Cartier.

Yuksek will be performing live at Cigale in Paris on 12th April 2017 & also at the festival Printemps de Bourges on 21st April and headlines The Camden Assembly on March 24th 2017.

Yuksek’s new album ‘Nous Horizon’ released 24th Feb2017 on Partyfine.

Yuksek – Nous Horizons LP

Sunrise-single.jpg

Celebrated French producer and songwriter Yuksek, purveyor of all things post-disco, house and pop has just revealed a brand new single video ‘Sunrise’ taken from his new album ‘Nous Horizon’ due for release on January 20th 2017 via Partyfine.

The video is an engaging and humorous take on a loved-up couple and throughout the video Yuksek himself is present but seemingly invisible until the end. Yuksek decribes the making of the video,

We shot the video of Sunrise in Los Angeles last September using the Californian hackneyed clichés, the palm trees, the vintage car, the pool, the house shaped in an “A”… while telling a love story out of the ordinary. Our lovers are far from being canons of beauty and, their way of life, this food orgy, is not exactly in the current standard of healthy living, and this is the paradox, they are nevertheless beautiful and happy. My ghostly presence in the video appeared to us to be the perfect evocation of this track history, of an imaginary love, a fantasy presence.

Yuksek set up his label Partyfine in 2013 which is now home to likes of Clarens, Weekend Affair, Get A Room! and in June released his own ‘Sweet Addiction EP’ which has now nearly reached 1-million Spotify Streams.

‘Nous Horizon’ is an album of mostly duets, invitations to sing together (Break My Heart, Sunrise, Sweet Addiction, Stay) featuring USA singer Monika, Kim Debarge, Her, Juveniles and Roman Rappak (Breton) Yuksek’s new melodies on ‘Nous Horizon’ are sunnier than before; his beats and production more subtle, airy, but still conveying a touch of hedonism with its club-friendly sounding tracks. In his own words,

‘It took me 4 years to find the drive to record a new album, during which I fed off new encounters with musicians, artists but also stage and film directors. All this led to a change in the way I worked, or at least in the way I envisioned my work. I wanted to reconnect with what influenced this project from the beginning, forge collaborations with people I crossed paths with during the past few years and engage an authentic artistic dialogue. With ‘Nous Horizon’, I tried to go back to the essence of things. My own musical culture and classical background as a pianist often leads me to look for complex harmonies and I did not renounce anything in this album. I wrote the music I love, between soul, electro disco and indie-pop.’

Yuksek will be performing live at Transmusicales de Rennes festival, France on 1st December and then at Cigale in Paris on 9th February 2017 with some new UK DJ dates tbc soon.

Get A Room! – Agony & Pain EP

get a room

Parisian DJs/producers Get A Room! proudly present their debut EP ‘Inbetween’, set for release on February 2nd 2015 via Partyfine, the label founded by Pierre-Alexandre Busson, better known as fellow French producer Yuksek.

Although this is their first EP, Get A Room! – the moniker of Aurelien Haas and Jeff Lasson – are certainly no novices to the Parisian music scene. They have been active for years: digging through crates to find and edit hidden gems before reintroducing them to the movers and shakers of the French capital through concept store Colette and their own imprint Small Time Cuts.

The duo are already celebrated for their remixes, which have been released through some of the best electro labels around including Kill The DJ, DFA, Ed Banger, Tigersushi, Labelle, and Meant. Their sleek sound is also the toast of fashion labels: they can often be found behind the decks at Paris Fashion Week and are responsible for the sound design of both Melinda Gloss and Paul & Joe fashion shows.

This debut effort showcases the quality production of the pair and their willingness to explore a variety of genres and tempos. EP opener, lead track ‘Agony & Pain’, is a peak time number that skillfully combines disco basslines with dubby analogue fx to create a versatile dancefloor winner. The original is accompanied by a remix from experimental producer The Emperor Machine, who has previously turned his hand to remixes of giants like Moby, Daft Punk and Royksopp. With his edit of ‘Agony & Pain’ he creates a strong hook with chopped up vocals and trademark synth arpeggios for a decidedly 90s spin.

A more downtempo affair, ‘Leave This Town’, which featured on Partyfine’s anniversary compilation ‘Partyfine,Vol. 1’, showcases what the band terms a ‘slo mo chugger’. It features Maik from the Parisian trio Tristesse Contemporaine (Geisha Boy) and Mattias Mimoun from Apollo. Remix treatment comes from Remain, whose hypnotic take moves the original in a far darker direction, as well as from the Get A Room! boys themselves, who neatly round off the EP with their smoky dub edit.

The Partyfine label itself has gained notable respect from its peers since its inception in 2013, with Jeremy Abbott of Mixmag praising the imprint as ‘a label as exciting as its manager’, and Annie Nightingale citing Yuksek’s releases as quickly making Partyfine ‘a trusted tastemaker in music.’

Yuksek’s impeccable taste is evident again on this release as his label goes from strength to strength. Get A Room!’s abundance of class and flair, already showcased in their Boiler Room set from 2014 – where they brought French and classic house together in an exclusive mix – looks set to bring the scene to its knees in 2015.
