Video: Kllo – Downfall
Ahead of the release of their debut album Backwater (out October 20) Kllo today share the incredible video for the recently released track ‘Downfall’. This clip shows a journey from the cold urban-scapes of the band’s hometown Melbourne, to the golden hues of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It follows Chloe through from a place which she must escape, to a nostalgic place of familiarity, ending in a burning sugar cane field, which symbolises hostile feelings that need to be released.
The clip’s director, Freya Esders, says of the clip ‘Downfall explores the need isolate, to return to the familiar in order to let go. I wanted to visually explore the warmth and comfort that only a nostalgic environment can provide and how that sense of emotional isolation is represented in the surrounds. The cane fires are a pungent part of my childhood memory. I recall afternoons where sickly sweet air would spill from a fast and brilliant blaze. Always at dusk, flames melting into sunsets. Using film for the project helped solidify what I’d hoped to evoke, a saturated, vibrant memory and in the clip, a finale about letting go and moving forward.’
Kllo’s debut LP Backwater is due for release on 20 October (via Good Manners Records/Caroline Australia, Ghostly International and Different Recordings), and will be available on CD, digitally and on 180g double vinyl + ltd edition coloured vinyl.
Kllo – Walls To Build (Mall Grab Remix)
Having released their hugely anticipated sophomore EP Well Worn back in August, today Kllo share Mall Grab’s rework of their single ‘Walls to Build’. Handpicked by Kllo, the up-and-coming Australian producer adds a driving bass beat while altering the pace of the original, injecting some space into the song to emphasize its depth. He’s effectively managed to turn Kllo’s smart pop into low light R&B, showcasing the duo’s wide, cross-genre appeal.
The duo is currently on their first ever world tour taking them across Europe with RÜFÜS DU SOL and NAO and North America with RÜFÜS DU SOL again later this month. To cap off the year, they’ll be playing a headline show in Los Angeles on December 4th at Multiply LA, and make their New York City live debut at Baby’s All Right on December 8th. A full list of dates can be found here.
Kllo – Bolide (LONE Remix)
Having released their hugely anticipated sophomore EP Well Worn back in August, today Kllo share LONE’s rework of the lead single ‘Bolide’. When thinking up remix targets, the R&S Records mainstay was right at the top of Kllo’s wish list. As big fans of the UK producer’s textured, eclectic productions, they weren’t disappointed, with LONE offering up a typically lysergic take on the track.
The remix coincides with the duo’s first ever world tour which currently has them in Europe with RÜFÜS DU SOL. They will then turn their attention to supporting NAO on her European run before heading to North America with RÜFÜS DU SOL once again (as well as playing a run of stand alone shows). Kllo will also play a special London show on November 3rd as part of the[PIAS] Nites series at Omera with fellow [PIAS] Different Recordings artists, Vessels andGroves. To cap off a busy year, they’ll make their New York City live debut at Baby’s All Right onDecember 8th. A full list of dates can be found here.
Well Worn is out now on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings/PIAS(UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).
Video: Kllo – Sense
Kllo today share the official video for their single, ‘Sense’, the third taken from their recently released EP, Well Worn. ‘Sense’ was recorded on the piano in Kllo’s lounge room, leading to the distinct feeling of nostalgia that is evident. Filming the video on Super 8, they went along with a good friend, James Robinson, to a number of locations that are close to the duo’s hearts; the suburb they grew up in, the studio where they wrote a lot of the music, and the parts of Melbourne where they spend their time off. According to the duo, ‘It was important to us that we captured the honest aspects of our life at the moment, as unrefined as the music.’
The video coincides with news that they’ve announced their first ever world tour which will take them across Europe with RÜFÜS DU SOL and NAO and North America with RÜFÜS DU SOL again (as well as playing a run of stand alone shows). Kllo will also play a special London show on November 3rd as part of the [PIAS] Nites series at Omera with fellow [PIAS] Different Recordings artists, Vessels and Groves. To cap off a busy year, they’ll make their New York City live debut at Baby’s All Right on December 8th.
Well Worn is out now on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).
Video: Kllo – Walls To Build
With the release of their highly anticipated new EP Well Worn (out August 5) just around the corner Melbourne duo Kllo shared the visual accompaniment for current single ‘Walls to Build’. Premiering via Noisey, the moody and beautiful visual nicely accents Simon Lam’s synth lines and Chloe Kaul’s vapor-trailed verses.
On the video, Kllo remarks, ‘the clip was filmed on a range of cameras and edited by our good friend Hamish Mitchell. ‘Walls to Build’ brings influence from a lot of different places and we wanted the varying fidelities in the video to reflect how the ideas came together.’
Kllo – Walls To Build
‘Walls to Build’ is the follow up to lead single ‘Bolide‘, which set Kllo storming out of the gates. Within days of its release, ‘Bolide’ had been added to rotation on multiple Australian radio stations and received spins on BBC Radio 1 & KCRW, as well as receiving upwards of 2 million plays on Spotify to date. As Hypemachine’s ‘most blogged artist’ the new single was one of the most talked about tracks in the world as tastemakers (such as Stereogum, the Guardian, xlr8r & more) once again scrambled to champion this exciting, fresh project.
Things happen so fast these days that Kllo barely had a Facebook page or a proper song before a wave of interest began to build around their breakthrough EP. What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia (Dark Mofo, Splendour in the Grass & Melbourne Music Week among many others) and overseas (the Great Escape, Primavera Sound), racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists. They also recently announced their signing to Ghostly International(North America), Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/Rest of the World).
Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like ‘False Calls’ and ‘Make Me Wonder’ with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Well Worn is out August 5th on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings // PIAS(UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).
Video: Kllo – Bolide
Melbourne duo Kllo (formerly Klo) recently showcased themselves as a powerhouse in waiting with their stunning new single ‘Bolide’ (the first track off their new EP Well Worn), and today are excited to share their visual imagining of the track. Premiering on Complex, the video was filmed with past collaborators Hamish Mitchell and David Mckinnar, and plays as a perfect backdrop to the blistering new single.
Within days of its release, ‘Bolide’ had been added to rotation on Australian radio (Triple J, RTR, FBi) and received spins on BBC Radio 1 & KCRW, as well as receiving upwards of 1 million plays on Spotify to date. As Hypemachine’s ‘most blogged artist’ the new single was one of the most talked about tracks in the world as tastemakers once again scrambled to champion this exciting, fresh project.

What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia (Dark Mofo, Beyond the Valley & Melbourne Music Week among many others) and overseas (the Great Escape, Primavera Sound), racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists. They also recently announced their signing to Ghostly International (North America) and Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan).
Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like ‘False Calls’ and ‘Make Me Wonder’ with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Guided by the ghosts of UK garage and like-minded strains of underground dance music, lead single “Bolide” sets a skittish beat against a clipped chorus. Catchy, yes, but also a compelling track of substance and subtlety that’ll leave listeners longing for the pair’s EP.
Well Worn is out August 5th on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings // PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW). To celebrate the release of ‘Bolide’, Kllo will be heading off on an East Coast tour of Australia this week. They’ve also been announced as part of the huge Splendour in the Grass lineup (July 22-24).
