Today, BADBADNOTGOOD are sharing the video for “Lavender” from this year’s critically-acclaimed album IV via Nerdist. The Fantavious Fritz-directed visual for “Lavender” finds the band held captive and forced to play a deadly game of Dungeons & Dragons. The video, which features a cameo by track collaborator Kaytranada, is the perfect accompaniment to the dark and enigmatic song.
The release of the video comes as BADBADNOTGOOD approaches the close of a big year for the band — playing Coachella for the second year in a row, making their Japanese debut at this year’s Summer Sonic and releasing an album that saw BADBADNOTGOOD exploring new sonic terrain and expanding their songwriting to include collaborators such as Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring, newcomer Charlotte Day Wilson, Arcade Fire and Bon Iver collaborator Colin Stetson, Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins, and widely-heralded Canadian producer Kaytranada.
Find the video for “Lavender” below and stay tuned for more BADBADNOTGOOD news soon.
After being awarded the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and releasing his anticipated new mixtape 0.001% ??? (which includes previously unreleased material from Joey Bada$$, Anderson .Paak and Nick Murphy) last week, KAYTRANADA is back today to share the video for “YOU’RE THE ONE,” the Syd-featuring highlight from his critically acclaimed debut album 99.9%. Produced with the financial assistance of MuchFACT, a division of Bell Media Inc, the Shomi Patwary-directed clip is inspired by KAYTRANADA’s favorite childhood programming.
Speaking to the video’s creative origins, Patwary shares, “Stylistically it was influenced by the look of black sitcoms from the early 90s — from Martin to Living Single and UPN sitcoms. The African prince idea derived from the plot of Coming To America.”
The video is vastly different from Patwary’s visuals for Beyoncé or A$AP Rocky, the result is something both immediately familiar but entirely new. Watch the video for “YOU’RE THE ONE” above now and see below for all of KAYTRANADA’s upcoming tour dates.

After recently announcing their forthcoming album IV and sharing its lead single, featuring Samuel T. Herring, BADBADNOTGOOD are back to share a new Kaytranada-assisted album cut. “Lavender” picks up where BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada left off with “Weight Off”, the BADBADNOTGOOD-featuring song from 99.9% and explores even more alien-sounding sonic terrain.
Speaking about the collaboration, BADBADNOTGOOD said, “We made Lavender amongst many other songs and samples with Kaytranada in our home studio ‘Studio 69’. Kay started the idea as a beat with our drum breaks and some synth melodies. Then we recut the drums and synth to formulate a song with more sections. Kay came back to Toronto and gave us that hot lead melody as well as percussion and we all finalized the arrangement. It’s an incredible honor to call Kay a close friend of ours; he is a talent like no other.”
Its release comes on the heels of BADBADNOTGOOD wrapping a run of North American tour dates, which was capped off by a performance at House of Vans in Brooklyn with DIIV and Sunflower Bean last week. Check out “Lavender” above now.
IV DUE OUT JULY 8TH VIA INNOVATIVE LEISURE.
Following Friday’s release of his debut LP 99.9%, Montreal’s KAYTRANADA is back today to share the video for album highlight “LITE SPOTS”. The clip, which was directed by Martin C Pariseau, produced by Evren Boisjoli, Romeo & Fils with the assistance of MuchFACT, finds KAYTRANADA creating a new robotic friend with unlikely skills. While the two dance their way across town over the course of the day, viewers get insight into the personality of KAYTRANADA.
The clip’s release also comes on the heels of KAYTRANADA launching his world tour last week. Tonight he continues his run of Europe before returning to North America for a jaunt of headlining dates.
