The New York-based Australian producer & singer formerly known as Chet Faker recently announced that he will now write, produce, record and perform under his real name, Nick Murphy. The name change symbolizes a musical evolution (see his statement via Facebook) and, earlier this week, he gave fans a taste of his evolving sound via “Fear Less.” The track is an electrifying mix of past and new influences, and premiered on http://nickmurphymusic.com. “Fear Less” is now available via Downtown / Interscope for purchase and to stream on all digital platforms.
The first headline Nick Murphy dates have also been announced and will see him perform a dynamic new show, pulling from his existing catalogue and showcasing new material. His U.S. dates include New York’s Webster Hall, Los Angeles’ The Theatre at Ace Hotel as part of Red Bull Sound Select’s 30 Days In LA, a show in Miami during Art Basel, and a headline performance at Houston’s Day For Night Music & Arts Festival. Tickets for all show go on sale this Tuesday, September 20 at 10am local time. Murphy also announced a headline slot at Laneway Festival 2017’s dates in Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, in addition to previously announced performances at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris and London’s O2 Academy Brixton.
Murphy’s achievements as Chet Faker since the release of critically acclaimed debut album Built On Glass has been great. The album featured a number of tracks that each garnered tens of millions of streams and video views. He performed the album’s biggest single “Gold” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! last year, and the video was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award. Murphy has performed sold out shows on five continents including three nights at New York’s Terminal 5 in 2015, and has played at the world’s top festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, FYF Fest, Glastonbury and Primavera Sound.

The video, directed by the TOILET PAPER crew, follows the band to a playfully-retro tropical dance party that rapidly gets out of hand. Watch “Action” now.
