Rising Bristol-based electronic artist Henry Green is announcing his debut album ‘Shift’ today, which is set for release March 30th via Akira Records. He’s also sharing his new single “Another Light” online now.
Speaking about the track, Green said “I had a really vivid image/moment in mind when I wrote “Another Light”. I was sat on a silent beach in the early hours of the morning, slightly hazy from the lack of sleep and I wanted to write about the whirlwind of colours and textures, both in the landscape but also in my mind at that moment. So much change had happened in such a short amount of time and I was just reflecting on it all.”
British songwriter and producer Henry Green kicks off the new year with preparations for the release of his “Real” EP via Akira Records. So far, Henry’s shared singles “Closer” and the title track “Real,” displaying his adept ability to merge traditional songwriting with more abstract arrangements while showcasing his androgynous vocals akin to Rhye.
Now Henry continues to tease his forthcoming “Real” EP with a new song “More Than This, ” a slinky, downtempo affair. “It’s about breaking routine, reconnecting as human beings and living with freedom,” Henry says about the track. “I think we’re occasionally guilty of sticking to the script too intently and I just wanted to write about running in a different direction – moving in a different way.”
British songwriter and producer Henry Green looks set to release new music in the form of EP, “Real” in early 2017 and has teased the EP with new singles “Closer” and the title track “Real.” The songs draw from Henry’s travels around Europe, focusing on the importance of immersing yourself in special moments and allowing real, raw emotion to be felt.
“Closer” displays Green’s desire to merge traditional songwriting with more abstract arrangements. The pairing of intimate, acoustic instruments with less recognisable synthesis and percussion, combined with Green’s distinctive vocal style, results in an intriguing and exciting outcome. Today Henry reveals the cinematic music video for the single. Filmed on the South West Coast of England, the “Closer” clip was directed by Jemima Fahy and Hattie Ellis and stars dancers Bakani Pick-up and Flora McMurtrie in a tumultuous embrace.
“Everyone involved in the EP and its visuals are all close friends, and that’s made the experience more enjoyable and inspiring,” Henry says about the video. “Bakani and Flora’s connection when dancing together is truly special, and I was desperate to get them involved in the visuals for this EP. We wanted to illustrate a natural love and desire purely through dance and for their movement to display a hunger; both for freedom and each other. The pair made it work so beautifully.”
British songwriter and producer Henry Green looks set to release new music in the form of EP, “Real.” Building on the success of 2015’s “Slow” (featuring the single “Barcelona,” a Top 10 on Hypem which to date has garnered nearly 2 million Spotify streams), Green’s new tracks move in a slightly different direction, whilst maintaining the sultry blend of electronics displayed in his previous works. Stemming from travels around Europe, the songs focus on the importance of immersing yourself in special moments and allowing real, raw emotion to be felt.
After revealing the first cut “Closer” from the EP earlier this fall, Henry returns today with the title track “Real.” Fans of The XX and London Grammar will happily lose themselves in the ambient soundscapes and ambiguously sultry lyrics.
“I remember feeling really excited when writing ‘Real,’” Henry says about the track. “It started out as a load of lyrical ideas and a simple chord progression on piano, but there was something intriguing about the mood it was creating. A lot of the ideas were formed whilst on tour in Europe, but it was the week after, once I’d had time to reflect, that the song really took shape and I started to build up it’s production. The song is about allowing yourself to feel everything that there is to feel in one moment, not holding back and feeling complete euphoria.”
Out 10th Feb 2017 on Akira Records.
