Video: Giraffage & Viceroy – Impression Of You feat. Patrick Baker

Day-dreamy croons and an R&B ambience is the brilliant personality behind “Impression Of You,” the highly anticipated track from Giraffage and Viceroy. The San Francisco-based tandem creates a sultry sonic cocoon within their vocal-driven ballad, featuring Patrick Baker’s lovelorn lyrics floating over pulsating synths, tight 808 snares and fast looped hats. And while the track marks a few firsts – the collaboration itself, each artist’s debut on Dim Mak – neither producer is a novice to the scene.

Giraffage is the sound-sculpting beat guru whose signature electronic pop flavor has won him praise from taste-making publications such as Pitchfork, FADER and Vogue. While celebrated for his remixes, Giraffage released his most recent EP No Reason on Fool’s Gold, producing the collection sans any sampled material. His prowess for evoking emotion through music has taken him on tour with Phantogram, Flume and XXYYXX, as well as alongside Porter Robinson as the main support on the massive “Worlds Tour.”

His counterpart Viceroy, the self-proclaimed Sultan of Summer, characteristically embeds a lush, tropi-coolness into his tracks that has skyrocketed many of them to the top of Hype Machine’s charts. He’s presented his distinct brand of summertime disco to clubs and parties across the world, with showcases at CMJ in New York and tours across Australia, Asia, and South America, and while his “Impression of You” is a departure from that comfort zone, the result is equally delectable.

Dim Mak celebrates the release of “Impression Of You” with an official music video that depicts the perfect narrative for modern day romance and desire. The story revolves around a young man who lets his imagination run wild when matched with Perfect 10 on a tinder-esque app. Unfortunately for the protagonist, all the lust he feels is unrequited and he ends the morning no closer to realizing his dreams.

ODESZA’s second single, “All We Need (feat. Shy Girls)” is an irresistible slice of 21st Century, blue-eyed soul. Produced by a duo whose feel for an infectious melody is matched by their firm footing in the world of bleeding-edge electronics, it’s the perfect follow up to 2014’s hit “Say My Name (feat. Zyra)”.

Now, they’re proud to share the dark, artful video for “All We Need (feat. Shy Girls)” from director Kevan Funk. Harrison Mills of ODESZA commented, “Kevan Funk and crew did a fantastic job producing a beautiful short for our track “All We Need”. We chose Kevan for his use of light, color and cinematic directing style. His use of dark imagery to convey the beauty as well as the tragedy of love and addiction in “All We Need” was a perfect contrast to the bright elements of the track while also playing upon the subtle melancholy undertones of the lyrics.

Accompanying the video is a series of excellent remixes from Giraffage, Dawn Golden, Robert DeLong, Will Saul, Autograf and more. Autograf’s remix of “All We Need” went to #1 on the Hype Machine popular chart already, making that ODESZA’s 21st #1.
