DNKL – Draft

dnkl.jpg

Different Recordings is pleased to welcome back Sweden’s electronic ’noir-pop’ trio DNKL for their new single ‘Draft’. The release follows on from the success of their first outing on the label “Otherside”, which Dummy Magazine described as “beautiful textures, syncopated beats and noir-drama” whilst The Line of Best Fit called it a “sultry dancefloor beast”.

Once again showing how the band craft a unique atmosphere with their ethereal vocals and esoteric textures, ‘Draft’ masterfully twists through it’s emotive lyrical sections before opening up into a propulsive, instrumental electronic groove.

Originally written as an 8-minute instrumental track ahead of an Asian tour, it quickly became a live favourite. Talking of the process of then committing the track to tape, DNKL said “When we got back home we brought it to the studio and started experimenting with vocals and structure, challenging our ways of songwriting and production, but at the same time trying to keep a dark vibe to it. This is probably the most up-tempo track we’ve done so far but also a song where we’ve brought in the darkest lyrics yet written. Somewhat of a paradox that makes the song even more personal.”

Draft is the band’s second release for re-launched UK indie Different Recordings (Claptone, Anna Of The North, Vessels), and sees DNKL leave aside the smokey, cinematic feel of their earlier outings for a more propulsive, if equally atmospheric, sound.

The band emerged a couple of years back with their incredible debut EP ‘Wolfhour’ praised by everyone from The Guardian to The Fader, Noisey and The Line of Best Fit. With appearances at some of Europe’s leading festivals under their belt, DNKL have every reason to feel confident in their sound and their long awaited return is sure to win them new fans around the world.

Kllo – Bolide (LONE Remix)

kllo

Having released their hugely anticipated sophomore EP Well Worn back in August, today Kllo share LONE’s rework of the lead single ‘Bolide’. When thinking up remix targets, the R&S Records mainstay was right at the top of Kllo’s wish list. As big fans of the UK producer’s textured, eclectic productions, they weren’t disappointed, with LONE offering up a typically lysergic take on the track.

The remix coincides with the duo’s first ever world tour which currently has them in Europe with RÜFÜS DU SOL. They will then turn their attention to supporting NAO on her European run before heading to North America with RÜFÜS DU SOL once again (as well as playing a run of stand alone shows). Kllo will also play a special London show on November 3rd as part of the[PIAS] Nites series at Omera with fellow [PIAS] Different Recordings artists, Vessels andGroves. To cap off a busy year, they’ll make their New York City live debut at Baby’s All Right onDecember 8th. A full list of dates can be found here.

Well Worn is out now on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings/PIAS(UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).

Kllo today share the official video for their single, ‘Sense’, the third taken from their recently released EP, Well Worn. ‘Sense’ was recorded on the piano in Kllo’s lounge room, leading to the distinct feeling of nostalgia that is evident. Filming the video on Super 8, they went along with a good friend, James Robinson, to a number of locations that are close to the duo’s hearts; the suburb they grew up in, the studio where they wrote a lot of the music, and the parts of Melbourne where they spend their time off. According to the duo, ‘It was important to us that we captured the honest aspects of our life at the moment, as unrefined as the music.’

The video coincides with news that they’ve announced their first ever world tour which will take them across Europe with RÜFÜS DU SOL and NAO and North America with RÜFÜS DU SOL again (as well as playing a run of stand alone shows). Kllo will also play a special London show on November 3rd as part of the [PIAS] Nites series at Omera with fellow [PIAS] Different Recordings artists, Vessels and Groves. To cap off a busy year, they’ll make their New York City live debut at Baby’s All Right on December 8th.

Well Worn is out now on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).

Kllo – Walls To Build

‘Walls to Build’ is the follow up to lead single ‘Bolide‘, which set Kllo storming out of the gates. Within days of its release, ‘Bolide’ had been added to rotation on multiple Australian radio stations and received spins on BBC Radio 1 & KCRW, as well as receiving upwards of 2 million plays on Spotify to date. As Hypemachine’s ‘most blogged artist’ the new single was one of the most talked about tracks in the world as tastemakers (such as Stereogum, the Guardian, xlr8r & more) once again scrambled to champion this exciting, fresh project.

Things happen so fast these days that Kllo barely had a Facebook page or a proper song before a wave of interest began to build around their breakthrough EP. What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia (Dark Mofo, Splendour in the Grass & Melbourne Music Week among many others) and overseas (the Great Escape, Primavera Sound), racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists. They also recently announced their signing to Ghostly International(North America), Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/Rest of the World).

Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like ‘False Calls’ and ‘Make Me Wonder’ with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Well Worn is out August 5th on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings // PIAS(UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW).

Vessels – Are You Trending?

vessels

The new single from the Leeds 5-piece shows the band’s unique electronic sound developing yet further. Vessels deliver their most forceful track yet in the explosive electronic steamroller ‘Are You Trending?’, set for release via Different Recordings, the electronic imprint of [PIAS].

Following on from the No1 Hype Machine single ‘4AM’, this new offering acts as a bridge between ‘Dilate’ and their next full length which is currently in the works and penciled in for an early 2017 release.

The band recently released a deluxe edition of their 2015 album ‘Dilate’ (8/10 Mojo, DIY, TLoBF), a record which proved to be a tipping point in the band’s trajectory from their post-rock beginnings to heavyweight contenders in the electronic scene.

Vessels recently supported Battles at their Brixton show and this summer will feature Glastonbury, Green Man and Melt! with more dates to be announced soon.

Melbourne duo Kllo (formerly Klo) recently showcased themselves as a powerhouse in waiting with their stunning new single ‘Bolide’ (the first track off their new EP Well Worn), and today are excited to share their visual imagining of the track. Premiering on Complex, the video was filmed with past collaborators Hamish Mitchell and David Mckinnar, and plays as a perfect backdrop to the blistering new single.

Within days of its release, ‘Bolide’ had been added to rotation on Australian radio (Triple J, RTR, FBi) and received spins on BBC Radio 1 & KCRW, as well as receiving upwards of 1 million plays on Spotify to date. As Hypemachine’s ‘most blogged artist’ the new single was one of the most talked about tracks in the world as tastemakers once again scrambled to champion this exciting, fresh project.

Things happen so fast these days that Kllo barely had a Facebook page or a proper song before a wave of interest began to build around their breakthrough EP. What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia (Dark Mofo, Beyond the Valley & Melbourne Music Week among many others) and overseas (the Great Escape, Primavera Sound), racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists. They also recently announced their signing to Ghostly International (North America) and Different Recordings/PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan).

Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like ‘False Calls’ and ‘Make Me Wonder’ with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Guided by the ghosts of UK garage and like-minded strains of underground dance music, lead single “Bolide” sets a skittish beat against a clipped chorus. Catchy, yes, but also a compelling track of substance and subtlety that’ll leave listeners longing for the pair’s EP.

Well Worn is out August 5th on Ghostly International (North America), Different Recordings // PIAS (UK/Europe/Japan) and Good Manners Records (AU/NZ/ROW). To celebrate the release of ‘Bolide’, Kllo will be heading off on an East Coast tour of Australia this week. They’ve also been announced as part of the huge Splendour in the Grass lineup (July 22-24).

Ascendant Melbourne duo Kllo have announced Well Worn, their exciting debut EP for Ghostly International (USA) and Different Recordings (UK). To align with the announcement, they’ve shared the first taste of new music in the form of lead single ‘Bolide’.

Things happen so fast these days that Kllo barely had a Facebook page or a proper song before a wave of interest began to build around their breakthrough EP Cusp. What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia, racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists.

Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like ‘False Calls’ and ‘Make Me Wonder’ with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Guided by the ghosts of UK garage and like-minded strains of underground dance music, lead single ‘Bolide’ sets a skittish beat against a clipped chorus. Catchy, yes, but also compelling enough to leave us all longing for the pair’s inevitable LP.

Well Worn is out August 5th on Ghostly International (USA) and Different Recordings UK) and available for pre-order now via http://caroline.lnk.to/Bolide

DNKL – Otherside

dnkl

One of Sweden’s most hotly tipped new acts, electronic ’noir-pop’ trio DNKL, follow up their acclaimed debut with new single ‘Otherside’. The band’s first release for re-launched UK indie Different Recordings (Claptone, Shadow Child), ‘Otherside’ sees DNKL leave aside the smokey, cinematic feel of their debut EP for a more propulsive, if equally atmospheric, sound.

We started to work on Otherside last summer, actually under quite some pressure,” explains the band. “We were set to perform at Roskilde and at the time of the booking, our first ever in fact, we only had one track out on Soundcloud. We simply had to sit down together and create music that was needed for the show. It turned out to be quite an exciting challenge.”

It was the first time we had experimented with adding dancier elements to our music,” they add. “Lyrically though it’s still very DNKL though, it’s a song about vanity and the heart burning desire to always get a piece of what we don’t have. The constant gazing at the other side.

Reworked and honed on tour, and now a fan favourite at the band’s live shows, ‘Otherside’ marks a remarkably assured return for a band only on their second release. Still with their debut EP ‘Wolfhour’ praised by everyone from The Guardian to The Fader, Noisey, The Line of Best Fit and many more plus appearances at some of Europe’s leading festivals under their belt, DNKL have every reason to feel confident in their sound and their long awaited return is sure to win them new fans around the world. Out via Different Recordings/PIAS.
