Collaborator, producer, songwriter and visual performer – Delhia de France presents her soulful and dark electronica debut EP Moirai, out now via Robot Koch’s own label Trees and Cyborgs.
Below you can watch the official video for “Dark Waves” from German producer/electronic musician Robot Koch. The song appears on his album HYPERMOMENT out now on Monkeytown Records (Modeselektor’s label).
Filmed entirely on an iPhone6s plus (following a trend for videos ie Kanye West’s “Only One” and Kate Nash’s “She Rules”), “Dark Waves” director Sven Dreesback takes Koch’s atmospheric tune to video of surfers Ryan Gast, Elija Bustos and Michael Ralla in open water.
Following the huge success of “Here With Me” and his TSUKI EP on Modeselektor`s Monkeytown Label, Robot Koch returns with the beautiful vocal talents of Delhia de France, on their dark and melancholic version of The Mamas and Papas classic California Dreamin’. Vocalist Delhia is also well known as front woman of the electronic conceptual art band Pentatones.
This stripped back and broodingly beautiful version opens with Delhia’s gorgeous vocals and the classic piano line, building into Koch’s signature drums and epic string lines, a freshly twisted haunting take on this west coast classic, and fitting very much into the legendary John Peels quote describing Robot’s music as “wonderful and strange – pop music from the future”.
Originally written over a year ago, the track has recently been used by Warner Brothers as the sound track to the trailer for their summer epic San Andreas, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Rumors have been rife online as to who has done the track, with artists such as Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Lykke Li and Warpaint in the frame for it.
