Felix Da Housecat – Founders Of Filth Vol. One

Founders Of Filth Volume One features the legendary Jamie Principle, who found fame as Frankie Knuckles vocalist and more recently starring in the 2017 Gorillaz album. Montreal DJ and producer Clarian also features on the debut release, concluding the stellar line-up.

A career spanning over thirty years, Felix dreams of going back to basics with his new label, “an imprint where no rules apply.. you can be as creative as you want to be, as a community. Clarian – Derail The Reptile Revolution EP

clarian

Culprit goes down Route 66 with the intensely original and inescapably beautiful release by Montreal’s coolest young export – Clarian. “Derail The Reptile Revolution” puts the “extended” back in the EP, with 5 songs of fresh ideas, unique delivery and offbeat humor.

A mini-album in all but a name, this collection is, possibly, the most cohesive artistic statement yet on the LA imprint. Likewise, the EP sums up Clarian’s six years of musical development, seeing the artist in full creative flight.

The five songs, each with distinct personality, are inspired by California desert mirages, neon Hollywood glow and faded sunsets over the Pacific. Neo-Future meets vivid Retro Analogue dreams…David Lynch’s “Dune” with the ghost of Hunter S. Thompson fully present.

Cosmic post-disco joins slow-burn techno, adorned with bits of New Wave, futuristic acid house and layers of celestial melodies that make for one-of-a-kind journey through space and time.

Clarian came into collective electronic music consciousness in 2010-11 with the Footprintz band project that burned fast like a comet but never faded away. Since then Clarian’s musings have found home on Visionquest, Rumors and Kompakt. It is now Culprit’s turn in the evolution of this exciting artist.

Release Date: November 21 on Culprit.

Clarian – Fear and Self Loathing EP

clarian

The latest release from Guy Gerber’s respected RUMORS label comes in the form of this 4-track EP from elusive producer Clarian. A regular Guy Gerber collaborator and remixer, Clarian has also recently released on the likes of Anjunadeep, Turbo, Life and Death, Supplement Facts and My Favourite Robot. Despite his mysterious persona, Clarian is regularly booked to play slots at some of the world’s best clubs; Fabric, Watergate, and Output to name just a few.

This new EP is an exemplary slice of the kind of deep, enigmatic techno that RUMORS has become well known for, all whilst showcasing Clarian’s own unique, imagery-filled style. Title track ‘Fear and Self-Loathing’ is a dark, dreamy soundscape of exotic Arabian flutes, subtle acid stabs and echoing synths that plays out like a hallucinatory trip through the desert. Hunter Game, who has provided the first remix on the A-side, takes things down a grittier road of rolling techno, led by a stomping bassline and distorted stabs.

Meanwhile, the second remix on the B-side comes courtesy of Christian Burkhardt, who has switched up the pace for his ‘Vegas’ take on the record; sliding, tense synths are offset by driving drums and flickers of whispering vocals, lending the track a cinematic, car-chase-esque feel.

‘Absence’ is the last track included on the EP from Clarian. Cascading electronic arpeggios are underpinned by a strong beat, building up to an echoing excerpt from a classic French film – a couple reflecting on love ends with the female confessing that she wants to leave, giving the track a sombre edge.

A well-produced four tracks showcasing varying shades of the techno spectrum, the ‘Fear and Self Loathing’ EP is set to further cement both Clarian’s status as a unique producer, as well as RUMORS’ well-deserved reputation as a reliable source of high-quality music.

Clarian – Kill For Love EP

clarian

Canadian producer Clarian delivers three melodic house cuts on the ‘Kill For Love EP’, his Anjunadeep debut.

Previously one half of Footprintz, Clarian has released on on Visionquest, Turbo, Life and Death and Culprit as a solo artist, not to mention his acclaimed collaborations with Guy Gerber and Seth Troxler. When not A&Ring Troxler’s Soft Touch imprint, a discography he’s inaugurated with this ‘If There Light At The End’ release, Clarian is a prominent figure in Berlin’s nightlife scene when he’s not trotting the globe between Paris, Dubai, Montreal, New York and London.

First up ‘Kill For Love’ kicks off the package with tantalising keys and mournful vocals, wrapped around a surging acid bassline.

‘Lucid Dreamers’ employs yet more acid licks and ebbing chords, whilst a spoken word sample floats softly above elegant rising melodies.

‘I Was Born In Outer Space’ concludes the EP with a trippy journey through otherworldly pads and undulating basslines as a heady vox sings blissfully throughout.

House favourite Seth Troxler has launched a new label, Soft Touch, which focuses on “artists I’ve met over the years whose music is amazing but not finding its niche.”

The label kicks off with a three-track EP by Clarian, the former Footprintz producer, and below you can watch  the video for the Jess Cardinal-featuring ‘Mirror of the Sun’ via FACT TV. Directed by John Alden Milne. You can buy the full EP here.

Clarian – Wasting Away Again in Moderation EP

MFR_112_1417x1417

You will probably recognise the name Clarian as one half of former synth pop leaning duo Footprintz. The Canadian has now stepped out on his own, and has released well-received solo EPs on Visionquest, Hot Creations and Turbo that saw him delve even deeper into a melancholic world of experimental house music.

As someone who learnt guitar and piano from a young age, Clarian’s music is very much alive and rich with real melody and feeling and that is once again the case on his debut EP for Canada’s My Favorite Robot Records.

Up first is the title track, a truly magical affair laced up with dangling harmonies, glowing percussive patterns and loopy melodies that suspend you in a huge open chamber and pleasure your soul as much as direct your feet. Musical, synth laden and beautiful tech like this doesn’t come along very often.

Next up is ‘Unrest’, another heavenly and super sensitive bit of richly melodic and vastly airy music. Hand claps, trilling keys and sweeping synths all colour an expansive deep house groove with real charm, wit and emotion.

Lastly, Clarian teams up with upcoming Miami based producer Uchi whose affinity for the dark & dreamy is on show for ‘Floating in the Wing’.It’s a sombre broken beat affair that has glowing pads backing sharp percussion and undulating drums and perfectly personifies the uplifting and intense mood of the dancefloor; a standout bit of work from these North American producers.

This EP confirms Clarian to be very much out on his own in terms of the spirituality and artistry of the music he makes. Out on November 3rd 2014.

Tracklist:
1. Clarian – Wasting Away Again in Moderation
2. Clarian – Unrest
3. Clarian & Uchi – Floating in the Wing
