Polychrome – Don’t Be A Stranger (Stranger Things Theme Cover)

Polychrome release their lyrical cover version of the Stranger Things theme, ‘Don’t Be A Stranger’ on exciting new indie label Hilo Lohi on 10th November 2017, with accompanying original song ‘The Call’ released on 29th December.

This is probably your first shoe-ward gaze at East London’s Polychrome. Unless you’ve come across their nostalgic, sega-tronic dream-pop track Final Kiss which featured on fashion brand La Mania’s campaign across Europe, and lead to further syncs with Vogue and Audi, giving the band an underground following in Europe.

The group is a coming together of the musical minds of Victoria Harrison from Victoria and Jacob, Oliver Price from Bronze Medallists, and long-time Lamb and Lou Rhodes collaborator/guitarist William Burnett. They met in the achingly hip Dalston where the beards are thick and the electro-shoe gaze is, well, way better than Foster the People…

As fans of the Synthwave soundtrack of Drive, Polychrome were naturally enthralled to hear the theme music for the Netflix original series Stranger Things. After binge watching the series in-between recording sessions, on one particularly stormy night whilst mixing the album, they got offered some down-time in the studio, and recorded their own lyrical adaptation of the Stranger Things Theme, in homage to the original.

The track combines dusty analogue synths with Victoria’s breathy, airy vocals and Oliver’s vocoded voice. Spookily, after they finished tracking the last vocal, a mysterious power failure shut down the studio! Luckily iCloud is immune to the upside-down and saved the day.

Forthcoming original track, The Call is a washed-out explosion of euphoria that showcases Polychrome’s depth of artistry. It fizzes along with some of their trademark pitched vocal hooks, recorded using a purple 1950’s harmonica microphone found in a car boot sale in Salem!

A remix by Simon Loulourgas, which exposes the song’s darker side, completes the cluster of releases, and precedes their self titled debut album which they are currently mastering and is slated for release on Hilo Lohi in the new year. For more bleached–out synths and soaring melodies, watch this shoe!

Catch Polychrome live on 6th December @ The Old Queens Head, London and look out for more dates in the new year!
