Moullinex – Carnival feat. Shermar
Ahead of the release next week of his 3rd album ‘Hypersex’, Portuguese producer Moullinex has shared another new track, ‘Carnival’.
“Months ago this singer from North Carolina got in touch, wanting to work with me. I sent him an instrumental. He had co-written a lot of hits, but ‘Carnival’ would become the very first track he’d actually sing on. I immediately fell in love with Shermar’s voice.” – Moullinex
On his third studio album, Luis Clara Gomes extended the creative process to several guest collaborators, from Fritz Helder (Azari & III) to Georgia Anne Muldrow (Flying Lotus, Mos Def), UhAhUh and Tee Flowers, all singers he works with for the first time, to Iwona Skwarek (Rebeka), Best Youth, Marta Ren and Da Chick, long time partners in crime. With each guest he visits each aspect of his infatuation for groove: sunny House music, tropical psychedelia with Brazilian curves, modern soul with a foot in the classics of Motown, jazzy melodies that never take themselves too seriously — all utterly irresistible.
This notion of fruitful promiscuity spanning from the dance floor is materialized in Hypersex’s visual identity. The album artwork was design by Bráulio Amado, one of the most prolific and international Portuguese designers. The vinyl release is accompanied by a fanzine which is as collaborative and diverse as the album, with many guests such as Gonçalo Duarte, Lord Mantraste, Sonja, Germes Gang, Oscar Rana, Sollidha, Simão Simões, Rita matos, Francisco Ferreira e Rudolfo, each one exploring their own relationship with the subject.
The videos that accompany the singles also span from the creative energy bursting from a dance floor, where people meet, ideas combine and new things are born, altering space and social context. From a social experiment disguised as a casting call for “Love Love Love”, directed by Bruno Ferreira, to the street performance of transgender artist Aurora Pinho by João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, the common focus is raising questions on the historical, cultural and political roles of club culture in society.
