IYES – History EP

IYES is a songwriting duo consisting of Melis Soyaslanová and Josh Christopher. They formed in 2013 in Brighton, UK, introduced through mutual friends, and they clicked straight away.

Their first track ‘Lighthouse’ was a sensation on Soundcloud and introduced the pair to the blogosphere to unexpected success. Following this, they wrote and uploaded the song ‘Glow’ which has since been re-released via Sony UK. This track went on to secure support from such publications as The Guardian and The Sunday Times, alongside Pitchfork, BBC Radio 1 and Majestic Casual’s YouTube channel.

Josh & Melis continued to release new music. ‘Til Infinity’ was the next, which featured on Zane Lowe’s former BBC Radio 1 show as his Next Hype and has close to one million plays on Soundcloud. Another release called ‘Breathe’ was co-produced by their friend and fellow producer/songwriter, MNEK.

With a total of close to 4 million plays on Soundcloud, and a few million on their Spotify channel, IYES have continued to develop after the re-release of ‘Glow’ in 2014 which was accompanied by their debut music video and featured in a couple of Sony Xperia mobile phone adverts.

Last summer they released two EPs on their own indie label ‘Love by Mistake’ named simply ‘Part One’ and ‘Part Two’. Josh comments: “We prefer the more indie approach… we enjoyed working with a major label, but after much deliberation we realised it’s just not us. We want to move at our own pace and build up in a really natural way. We don’t want to be hyped up and die off, like a lot of electronic pop acts these days.”

Their upcoming EP is a collection of songs called ‘History’ and features a selection of older tracks that the band haven’t previously shared before. It explains the story up until now, in reverse order: ‘Lighthouse’ being the first track they wrote.

‘History’ EP is available now to stream on all platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
