KIll J – Cold Stone

Mysterious Danish singer, songwriter and producer KIll J releases her new single ‘Cold Stone’ – a song about teenage life, where the harsh and relentless need to fit in never ends.

KIll J aka Julie Aagaard has set the bar high with her eclectic take on Scandinavian pop. With tracks like ‘You Have Another Lover’ (here) ‘Phoenix’ (here) or ‘Bullet’ (here) racking up 500,000 plays on Soundcloud last year she is quickly becoming an artist to look out for. With ‘Cold Stone’ she shows complete control over her experimental pop universe making it her most immediate track to date.

“Cold Stone is my bubblegum track” Julie laughs “but pop isn’t a crime”. Julie’s vocal is one of KIll J’s most amazing trademarks with an awe-inspiring tonal reach. Add flawless production and you have a new singer in the lineage of empowered Scandinavian female artists.

The lyrics to ‘Cold Stone’ are purposefully naive– a portrait of her former more-innocent teenage self. ‘Cold Stone’ is about being in an unhappy place:

“It is an innocent universe, where everyone is supposed to be happy, but still it is the formative years and that is the most brutal part of our lives. It is a cold, mean fight to fit in under the surface – and none of us longs to go back to that teenage anxiety” Julie explains.

‘Cold Stone’ might be KIll J’s first pop tune but its far from ordinary. “Cold Stone is a tribute to the imperfect and maladjusted person – to he or she that dares to stand out/outside“, she says. Kill J is experimenting, challenging and completely in control.
